Burrington Combe-OverCheddar Running Club Prize Winners
Male Over 50’s Category: 1st Roger Griffiths (Overall 3rd)
Female 40-49 Category: Gillian Howell
1st Male Team: Cheddar Running Club
Best Fancy Dress: Pete Hicks and Roger Griffiths
Best Comb-Over: Steve Howell

This year’s course was extremely wet and boggy.  Roger and Pete impressed everyone with their stylish outfits and flawless make-up.  They both did very well but were unfortunately unable to claim the female prizes (despite asking).

The course consisted of a long (3km) climb at the beginning which was fairly muddy underfoot and took us to a road crossing at the top of Burrington Combe.  From there we traversed around Beacon Batch which was particularly boggy and hard running terrain.  We eventually dropped down off the hill and had a short road section to Tyning’s Farm.  Then followed an unexpected climb back up onto Black Down.  From here it was pretty much all downhill through Rowberrow Warren and then skirting around Mendip lodge Wood to the Finish.

A number of runners took a wrong turn and were then rounded up by Steve Howell who knew the local area and fortunately realised they were heading in the wrong direction (i.e. towards Chrchill)!

A good meal was enjoyed at the Burrington Combe Inn after the event.  Well done to everyone who took part.

Total Distance: 5.69 Miles (9.1 Km)
Ascent: 1,401 Feet (421 m)
Descent: 1,246 Feet (374 m)
(According to my GPS watch)
