Date: 01-Dec-2009 2009 was another successful year for the Cheddar Half Marathon, however, Cheddar Running Club have become increasingly concerned about the safety of the current course. The route is on un-closed roads and as such the 300 runners have to share the narrow country roads with fast moving traffic. Unfortunately it is only a matter of time until we have a serious accident.
As a consequence of the above, and unless we are able to obtain road closures for the course, which at the moment seem very unlikely, the club have decided there will be no Cheddar Half Marathon in 2010. We all know it is a popular race and this was a very hard decision for the club to make but we are sure you can understand that safety has to come first.
However, as a club we are currently considering the options of organising another race in the Cheddar area that will hopefully be just as popular, and yes we will still have all the homemade cakes.
Thank you for all your support over the past nine Cheddar Half Marathons and we will keep you updated with our race plans in the future. |
