The Course

TRA_Logo_RGB.png

Starting and finishing in Cheddar, The Big Cheese is a 15m off-road fell race across the Mendips Hills, with over 2000ft of climbing. The event is licenced by the Trail Runnning Association.

Starting on Warren's Hill, just below Batts Quarry, the route quickly goes up hill and eventually past the Mendip Raceway, along the road and on to Tynnings Farm and down through Rowberrow woods, past the 1st Water Station. Once out of Rowberrow Woods you will be on to Blackdown and then up to Beacon Batch, on to the twin masts and the 2nd Water Station. Down the hill, turn right and along the road past Charterhouse until the top of Velvet Bottom. Down through Velvet Bottom, turn left to Black Rock and the Cliff Road and the 3rd Water Station. Cross Cliff Road and up the very steep rocky climb. Once on the top of the Gorge Cliffs you run towards Middle down. Finally once across Middle down you will start to decend into Cheddar via Bradley Cross. A little bit of on-road and you will be at the Finish at Fairlands Middle School!
